Beth Shalom sponsors Boy Scout Troop 61. The 35-member troop meets every Monday evening at the Lamar Campus and sponsors one outing a month. One of the troops' highlights is our annual summer camp experience at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation near Osceola, Missouri.
As the only Jewish Boy Scout troop in Kansas City, our instruction has a Jewish perspective and emphasizes Jewish values. Current and past members have come from all faiths. One of the oldest and best known troops in the Kansas City area, Troop 61 was chartered in 1925. Over 1,400 boys have been members of the troop with more than 300 of our scouts achieving the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Third-generation 61ers are not unusual.
